CH-46
This aircraft was part of a multi aircraft relocation project. The aircraft was disassembled and transported from MCAS Miramar and reassembled in Irvine CA for the Flying Leatherneck Aviation Museum. Just a little history on the aircraft: CH-46 Bureau Number 154803 was accepted by the USMC on February 19th, 1968 and was assigned to Marine Medium helicopter Squadron 263 (HMM-263) at MCAF Santa Ana, CA. It served with the “Thunder Chickens” until June 6th, 1971 when it was transferred to the ” White Knights” of HMM-165. On April 30th, 1975, “Lady Ace 09” participated in “Operation Frequent Wind” and airlifted the U.S. Ambassador of South Vietnam, Graham Martin, from the American Embassy in Saigon to safety of the USS Blue Ridge offshore. This was updated in 1982 to a CH-46E and served with HMM-764 from 1985. In 2001 “Lady Ace” was transferred to HMM-744 and served there until it retired in June 2006. The aircraft in currently on loan from the National Museum of the Marine Corps to the Flying Leatherneck Aviation Museum.
